Sacred Canvas:
A Day in Color and Light
These works were created for a site-specific for ArtReach St. Croix that included 40 modular paintings.
The installation included two benches for visitors to engage with the installation and I wrote poem to go with the works. An audio track of me reading it was on loop in the space with the volume lower so one could listen to it while sitting within the work.
The poem
The morning light awakens color, brushstrokes stirring in first silence. Colors whisper, painted moments suspended in time. Shadows dance with flowing light, geometric dreams in gentle motion. Sacred language lives in the brushstrokes, speaking what words cannot contain. A time to pause.
The painting breathes with changing light, colors shifting in gentle rhythm. Time moves slowly through pigment hours, each stroke marking moments passed. Light rewrites the story.
Sun travels its ancient path, colors transforming, moment by moment. Meditation takes visible form, brushstroke by brushstroke, we transform
The square holds a piece of the sky, captured and freed. A sacred space between inside and out, where we learn to let light speak.
Afternoon arrives in golden streams, colors conversing in warmer tones. Time becomes texture, hours turn to hue, each moment making itself anew. Between twilight and approaching night, shadows lengthen, fragments hold twilight's gift. Daylight fades with color glowing, inner radiance emerging.
A sacred space, colors hold a quiet conversation, inviting reflection. Last breaths of light and color, brushstrokes ending where silence begins — night completes the sacred circle.
